Newborn Travel

newborn travel

I prefer parents wait to travel until their children are at least 2 months old and have received their first set of immunizations. Travel often exposes children to infections. Children under 3 months with febrile illness should be immediately evaluated by a doctor. See fever in young children. Hopefully by waiting until 2 months, you can to avoid emergency room visits while out of town. While one set of immunizations provides minimal immunity against disease, some protection is better than no protection.

When flying with a young child it is best to feed them upon take-off and when landing. The feeding and swallowing should help their ears adjust to pressure changes. I do not recommend “medicating” your child with benadryl or other cold medicines prior to trips.
